Tabasco Sauce: Very hot red sauce made from peppers.
Table Wine: Term for a wide variety of non-sparkling wines of normal alcoholic strength (usually less than fourteen percent).
Tahitian Treat Soda: Fruit punch soda made by Shasta.
Tannin: Natural material with a bitter taste that may make the mouth pucker. In wine, tannin comes from grape skins, stems, seeds, and from wood. Tannin also helps wine age.
Tanqueray Gin: Brand name of an unsweetened gin produced in England since 1830.
Tavel (tah-vel): A commune in the Rhône region of France that produces only rosé wines.
Tawny Port: Amber-colored Port that has been aged longer than ruby, up to forty years, before release. In general, it is also aged at least six years before release.
Tea: Hot or iced beverage made with the dried leaves of the tea shrub, a bush growing in Africa and Asia. There are many different varieties of teas and herbals teas that are made with leaves or flowers, such as peppermint and chamomile.
Tea Bags: Small, square bags containing shredded tea leaves and used to make tea.
Tempranillo (tem-prah-NEE-yo): Traditional Spanish grape variety used in the great wines of Rioja and of Ribera del Duero.
Tennesse Whiskey: Type of whiskey that is produced like Bourbon, but is mellowed before being stocked in barrels. It has thus a smokey sweetness, and is considered by law as a separate category of whiskey.
Tequila: Spirit distilled from the agave plant, produced in Mexico. It is made from a minimum of 51% of distilled blue agave sap.
Tequila Gold: Gold-colored tequila that has usually aged between two to four years in oak casks.
Tequila Rose: Strawberry-flavored cream liqueur and tequila. It is a sweet liquor with a hint of tang to it that tastes similar to melted strawberry ice cream.
Tequila Silver: Young, colorless tequila--as opposed to Tequila Gold.
Terroir (tair-wah'r): French word for "earth" or "soil". It is used in the sense of "place" which includes localized climate, soil type, drainage, wind direction, humidity and all the other factors that combine to make one grape-growing location different from another.
Thai Tea: Tea coming from Thailand.
Thin: This term refers to a drink that seems watery, lacking body, viscosity, alcohol, or sugar.
Tia Maria: Deep, brown, rum-based coffee-flavored drink that has a base of Jamaican rum. Its counterpart is Kahlua. It is 26.5 percent alcohol by volume.
Tinto: Spanish for "red" (wine).
Tirage (tee-rahj): Champagne-production term describing the initial bottling of the wine so it can undergo the bottle fermentation that adds bubbles.
Tonic water: Carbonated beverage containing lemon, lime, and quinine, an alkaloid obtained from the cinchona bark.
Triple sec: Type of curacao liqueur.
Trocken (TRAW-ken): German term for "dry" that specifically refers to wines with no more than .9 percent sugar.
Tropical Fruit Schnapps: Schnapps flavored with tropical fruits.
Tuaca: Italian sweet liqueur, flavored with citrus.
Tuaca liqueur: Unique blend of brandy, vanilla, and citrus fruit essences. Tuaca liqueur is normally produced in Italy.
Tuscany: Wine region of central Italy surrounding Florence that produces Chianti among many other types of wine.
